The Michigan men’s basketball team has made its first move in an attempt to replace graduate center Vlad Goldin.
On Tuesday, the Wolverines brought in Morez Johnson Jr. from Illinois according to Scott Burgess of PrepHoops. Johnson is a former four-star recruit who played one season for the Fighting Illini.
Johnson’s single season at Illinois saw him predominantly in a role off the bench, playing in 30 games and starting in eight straight during the middle of Big Ten play. He averaged seven points and 6.7 rebounds per game with fluctuating minutes each game, and will look to build on this role now with the Wolverines.
While it will be difficult to replace Goldin’s presence down low, Michigan is one step closer to doing so with the commitment from Johnson. His athleticism at 6-foot-9 and room for growth as a former high-level recruit are promising signs of what could be to come for the Wolverines.
