Just three days after the Michigan men’s basketball team was knocked out in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament, it picked up its first commitment of the offseason through the transfer portal.
According to a post and on X and article by 247 Sports’ Dushawn London, North Carolina guard Elliot Cadeau has transferred to Michigan, also according to his Instagram post. Cadeau spent two seasons with the Tar Heels before he announced Tuesday that he would be entering the transfer portal. And six days later, Cadeau found his new home in Ann Arbor.
Cadeau was a former five-star recruit out of high school where he was the No. 11 overall player according to 247 Sports. After an illustrious high school career, Cadeau was a two-year starter for North Carolina as its point guard. He played in all 37 games both seasons and started 31 and 37 games in his sophomore and freshman seasons, respectively.
Making an immediate impact, Cadeau averaged 8.3 points and 5.1 assists in 25.9 minutes per game throughout his career with the Tar Heels. He also shot 33.7% from beyond the arc this past season, looking to add more of that dimension to Michigan’s offense.
After an aggressive offseason a year ago where Michigan coach Dusty May and staff brought in six transfers, all of whom became rotation players, the Wolverines are back hitting the portal just as hard this offseason. With the immediate addition of Cadeau early in the offseason, Michigan has set the precedent for how it’s bringing in transfers in year two of the Dusty May era.
