2024 Michigan primary election results

Primary elections for national, state and local offices were held across Michigan on Aug. 6 as voters chose candidates to represent their parties in the U.S. general election on November 5. The Michigan Daily is reporting on election results as they are called.

United States Senate

Rep. Elissa Slotkin won the Democratic primary, defeating actor and lawyer Hill Harper. Former Rep. Mike Rogers defeated former Rep. Justin Amash and physician Sherry O’Donnell. 

Businessman Sandy Pensler withdrew from the race on July 20 and endorsed Rogers; however, he remained on the ballot due to the timing of his withdrawal. The open seat emerged after Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D) announced that she would not seek reelection due to retirement, after holding the seat for 20 years.

United States Representative, District 6

Incumbent Democratic Rep. Debbie Dingell and Republican Heather Smiley won their respective unopposed primaries.

Michigan State Representative, District 23

Incumbent state Rep. Jason Morgan won the Democratic primary, running unopposed. Retiree David Stamp defeated Miriam Covino in the Republican primary.

Michigan State Representative, District 32

Incumbent state Rep. Jimmie Wilson Jr. won the Democratic primary, running unopposed. Martin Church will advance to the general election after defeating James Chapman and Jonathan Hoover in the Republican primary.

Michigan State Representative, District 33

Morgan Foreman, former director of constituent services for state Rep. Felicia Brabec, defeated Rima Mohammed, Ann Arbor Public Schools board trustee and associate clinical professor at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, in the Democratic primary. Jason Rogers won the Republican primary, running unopposed.

Washtenaw County Prosecuting Attorney

Incumbent Eli Savit won the Democratic primary. Savit is expected to win reelection as the only candidate in the race.

Washtenaw County Sheriff

Alyshia Dyer, therapist and former Washtenaw County deputy sheriff, defeated Derrick Jackson and Ken Magee in the Democratic primary. There are no Republican candidates in the race.

Washtenaw County Clerk & Register of Deeds

Incumbent Lawrence Kestenbaum will advance to the general election after defeating Shelly Brock in the Democratic primary. Samantha Strayer defeated Adam de Angeli in the Republican primary.

Washtenaw County Treasurer

Latitia Lamelle-Sharp won the Democratic primary, running unopposed. Robert Zimmerman defeated Brian Bennett in the Republican primary.

Washtenaw County Water Resources Commissioner

Gretchen Driskell won the Democratic primary, running unopposed. Lisa Gubaci-Root won the Republican primary, also running unopposed.

Ann Arbor City Council, Ward 4

Incumbent councilmember Jen Eyer won the Democratic primary, defeating Mozhgan Savabieasfahani. There are no Republican candidates in the race.

Ann Arbor Township Trustee

In the at-large race, Democrats Peter Kotila, John Allison, Della DiPietro and Eric Kaldijan will advance to the general election. Alex Cacciari is the only candidate who will not be on the ballot in November.
