Michigan continues to build with transfer Robbie Hamchuk from San Jose State

After a few weeks of silence from Michigan coach Tracy Smith, he added his fifth transfer with outfielder Robbie Hamchuk from San Jose State.

Hamchuk announced his commitment on X Thursday to join the Wolverines after spending his first four years with the Spartans. Hamchuk enters the Michigan dugout with one year left of eligibility looking to provide depth both at the plate and in the outfield.

In his last three seasons at San Jose State, he earned a starting spot in the lineup and made his name known. Hamchuk put up strong numbers this past season, slashing .304/.386/.506 whilst going on a 22-game hit streak.

During the Mountain West Championship series this year, he notched three home runs and nine RBIs, six coming from just a single game.

Hamchuk’s contact-hitting approach and offensive productivity are much needed for the Wolverines’ upcoming season. While losing the power of outfielder Stephen Hrustich to graduation and breakout designated hitter Collin Priest to the transfer portal, Hamchuk’s plate appearances can become crucial for Michigan.

With Hamchuk making the jump from his hometown of San Jose to Ann Arbor, the Wolverines added another potential potent force to the dugout. As Smith continues his search to add talent, Hamchuk joins the team with the chance to flourish in maize and blue.
