LAS VEGAS — With the NHL Draft up and running on day two, the Michigan hockey team’s commits were nowhere near done.
Quickly into day two, Wolverine commit and defenseman Gabriel Eliasson was drafted with the seventh pick in the second round, 39th overall, to the Ottawa Senators.
Eliasson is a hard player to pass up, and with the Senators’ second pick of the draft, they made sure he wouldn’t slip through their fingers.
Standing tall at six-foot-seven, Eliasson is a beast on the ice, constantly winning puck battles and utilizing his size as a defenseman to defend his team. Hailing from Sweden, Eliasson doesn’t have much experience playing hockey in North America, but his on-ice talent and off-ice humility speak volumes.
While he’s planning to play one year in the USHL before donning the maize and blue, having that experience playing in the United States before heading to collegiate hockey will be crucial for his game.
As the second Michigan commit of the 2024 NHL Draft, Eliasson stands tall — not only literally, but in the way he plays his game, as well.
