Christian Humphreys selected as No. 215 to the Colorado Avalanche in the seventh round of the NHL Draft

LAS VEGAS — After Michigan hockey commit Gabriel Eliasson was drafted in the second round to the Ottawa Senators, upcoming Wolverine forward Christian Humphreys followed suit, making him the fourth Michigan commit to be drafted at this year’s NHL Draft.

With the 225th pick, the Colorado Avalanche drafted Humphreys following his successful tenure with the United States National Team Development Program. Tallying 82 total points over his two-year tenure, Humphreys is known for having a keen eye on the puck and his explosive play.

In the final round of the Draft, Humphreys is a steal. He was projected to be a third or fourth-round pick, yet he waited patiently for the Avalanche to finally call his name and claim his jersey.

Although his draft round may not show it, Humphreys is a valuable and reliable player at center due to his accurate shot.

By picking Humphreys 215th overall, Colorado utilized their second-to-last pick well. Although Humphreys is coming off of a rocky season with NTDP, his statistics speak for themselves. Hailing from one of the best junior teams in the country and having the numbers he does, he is clearly an asset to any roster he is part of.

And although team after team passed on him as the day went on, both Michigan and the Avalanche recognized his true value.
