After landing his first transfer of the offseason just two weeks ago, Michigan baseball coach Tracy Smith landed another: outfielder AJ Rausch.
Rausch announced his commitment Tuesday via X, just a few weeks after entering the transfer portal. Rausch will play out his final year of eligibility for the Wolverines.
In his three seasons at Ohio, Rausch was a consistent bat that the Bobcats relied upon. A starter since his freshman year, Rausch is a contact hitter with a tendency to reach base safely, holding a career .387 on-base percentage.
This past season, Rausch was a leader on the field for Ohio, ranking second on the roster in batting average and slugging percentage while landing third in OPS among qualified batters.
This addition is a much-needed one for Michigan. After losing its top hitter to graduation, outfielder Stephen Hrustich, a hole remained both in the field and in the lineup. Rausch figures to be a plug-and-play player for the Wolverines, as a trusty bat and equally dependable glove.
With Rausch’s commitment, the pieces are beginning to accumulate in Ann Arbor. Alongside his new teammates, Rausch has a chance to be another weapon in Michigan’s lineup while filling a much-needed gap.
